Warning: What you’re about to read has a blog disclaimer On Saturday, May 16th, 2009, I went and seen the movie Angels and Demons. Personally, I thought this movie was a much better attempt at Dan Brown’s book, then the previous Howard/Hanks movie The Da Vinci Code. This post today, however, is not about the movie, but it is about the absurdity of disclaimer statements. As the trailers for this movie began to play, one of the trailers that was shown was Public Enemies, starring Johnny Depp. Right before this movie started, there was the familiar green movie disclaimer statement...

What Lies Ahead Well, I woke up today and started wondering how long this madness of being unemployed was going to carry on. At the onset of this thought, I went to a folder on my computer which is a repository for all the jobs that I apply to. My method of retaining this information is as follows: Find a job posting to apply to Select print and save the job description page as a PDF Save the PDF to my folder: “Jobs applied to” I do this each and every time. Part of the reason is so I can keep track of where and when I am applying for the Unemployment agency in Florida in case...

What a great weekend this has been. Went to a former colleague’s house party and pretty much just sat out on the pier. I was able to meet up with other friends and just talk, and pretty much chill. Saturday was a great day out here in Orlando, FL. Although it did rain later on in the evening, it was pretty much great throughout the day. Was able to take part in a boat ride on their lake, which I always enjoy sitting back on a boat and enjoying the ride. I made, what I call, “My infamy”, which is BBQ shredded beef. Suffice it to say, I received a good amount of compliments...

Dunkin' Donuts can create Frozen Assets

For a couple of days now, a number of people online (myself included) have been trying to help a fellow Facebook friend and (for some of us) a former co-worker (who was laid off as well) win the “Create Dunkin’s Next Donut” contest. Her name is Kimberly Brooks and she has already been featured in one of the Orlando’s (Florida) local newspaper blogs, Orlando Sentinel. The article entitled, “Orlando woman needs your vote to win Dunkin’ Donuts contest“, has a lot more information on the contest as well as the other finalists. I won’t repeat much here...

We Are Here and We Are Ready I’ve written a lot about my personal trials, refocusing and the shifting in my thinking about the current perils of being unemployed from my perspective (and about myself on a personal level). This post today is being written for those companies throughout the U.S. that have positions posted, but seem to be stalled in their hiring; or failing to do so. By “failing to do so”, this is not meant for companies that are still on a hiring freeze or those that do not have the budget to hire another person, rather, this is meant for the companies that...

Had a couple of days of partying and fun. On Friday, May 8th, I went out to a former colleague’s birthday celebration at BJ’s Brewhouse (if you like this place, you can also find them on Facebook and become a fan). I’ve been to this place before and although I am not much of a fan of their beers (as they are a brewhouse, as noted above), I do like one of their dishes, which is their jambalaya. I like spicy food and they put a good amount of seasoning in it. It was an overall fun time, which for a few of us, ended up spilling over to the Blue Martini (a dance and lounge...

New Theme: Ocean Mist! I just completed the new update and improved look to my blog.  I left the Vigilance theme… for now.  When I saw this Ocean Mist theme, I knew that I had to use it.  Vigilance was great, but I was impacted by the color of blue being used and wanted it for my site.  I have literally been working on this for about 3 hours as I needed to find a new set of icons for my social media profiles and then learn a tiny bit of HTML code to get them to list right.  I probably chose too big of a size, but for now, the icons are fine with me.  The picture that I am using...

I was just reviewing some of the few sites that I go to these days and on Digg they have a link to the official Google Blog where Google is stating that they’re using goats to mow their lawn.  Now, this isn’t a new thing by any means.  Animals, such as goats, have always grazed off the land.  But what I believe is unique about this story is that a major corporation is taking the whole “green aspect” to a new level.  And with the usage of goats, they obtain a number of benefits, all of which are not fully listed here: The usage of the goats cost the same as hiring...

This past weekend was a lot more active then my previous ones of late.  On Thursday, I was at the FX International Show, because a friend of mine and her husband host conventions primarily in the southeast states.  Their more famous convention, which her husband has been doing for about 7 years now, is called Repticon.  Now, they are starting another convention in the Science Fiction & Fantasy/Comic Book genre and will be hosting their first annual Creature Con on May 30th and 31st at the Central Florida Fair Grounds.  In an effort to drum up vendor support, she needed someone to...

Ok, so quick post on the state of a few things.  First, I completed my taxes last night.  After a 7 hour ordeal (had to do mine and my mom’s taxes), it is done.  Half of this time was me procrastinating and complaining about having to do taxes.  I really do believe in the removal of the IRS and in place of it a “fair tax” only system, or hey, no taxes at all.  I mean, it’s not written anywhere in the constitution about having to pay taxes on wages earned, but I digress.  During the process, I was so bent out of shape on having to do it, even while I was doing...
